TEACHER CERTIFICATIONS:
British Columbia and Manitoba Teaching Certification
I have both Manitoba and BC teacher certification. I was born & raised in Winnipeg and received my BC TRB certification in 2016.
Yoga Teacher Certification
Yoga is a big part of my life and had been for years before deciding to pursue teaching certification. I wanted to increase my knowledge, deepen my personal practice, and to begin sharing yoga as another way to serve my community. During vacation, I spent 1 month in India to gain 200 hours of training. I then opened up a yoga studio in my community in China to offer evening classes. I also developed an alternative P.E. course called "Yoga and Wellness" and offered it at Maple Leaf High School to 60 students throughout two semesters.
Mental Health Literacy
I noticed that students at my school were dealing with common stressors, unique to their situation of being international students studying abroad. Thus, I joined an 8 hour online course to be more prepared to teach Mental Health Literacy to my students in P.E. class.

Mental health is everything to me. I've worked hard in creating a lifestyle with values that will serve my mental health positively. In turn, I'm able to serve others authentically, and that's ultimately my purpose in life: simply to be as authentic and selfless as I can in all my relationship with others and my self. I intentionally model my strategies for maintaining a healthy mental state and utilize mental health as an overarching theme in my P.E. classes.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
English First Peoples
My most recent professional development was the FNESC English First Peoples 10-12 full day regional workshop.
Wilderness First Aid
I'm pursuing certifications that will enable me to lead quality outdoor experiences. Safety is always first, and having this training has made me feel competent and prepared to guide my students on challenging outdoor excursions. Outdoor Education is the main focus in my P.E. courses because I believe it serves all aspects of our holistic wellness and provides experiences that promote lifelong healthy, active living with a connection to, and respect for nature. Also, my school doesn't have a gym, so I make the outdoors our classroom.
Storytelling
I have been passionate about applying the art of storytelling in my English classes as an effective way to integrate Indigenous Perspectives. It also serves as a powerful and engaging medium for students to self reflect and write with an authentic voice. Students come away with greater personal and social awareness and respect for self and others.
